UFC 306 Results

Published on 15 September 2024 at 16:00

UFC 306 showcased a lot of fights which went the full distance, but some of those bouts would be the most entertaining battles of the year. Here are all the results as to what happened at The Sphere.

early prelims

Raul Rosas Jr vs Aoriqileng (Bantamweight Bout) - Rosas Jr wins via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Rosas Jr continues his success after earning his first decision win in the UFC. The grappling would be El .Nino Problema's greatest strength in the fight as it would cause problems for Aoriquileng, while the second round would showcase some wild exchanges as the Chinese fighter would land the cleaner shots. Now on a three-fight winning streak, Rosas Jr will aim to face a ranked Bantamweight in his next fight.

preliminary card

Edgar Chairez vs Joshua Van (Flyweight Bout) - Van wins via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Van did enough to convince the judges decision after some impressive striking and wrestling. Both Van and Chairez would have a wild second round as The Fearless would land some incredible combinations to the head and body of the Mexican, before Chairez would stun the American with a spinning backfist. The Hakha-born fighter is now back in the win column as he tries to crawl his way back towards the Flyweight rankings.

Yazmin Jauregui vs Ketlen Souza (Women's Strawweight Bout) - Souza wins via Rear-Naked Choke (R1, 3:02).

Souza put on an incredible display to earn her first stoppage win in the UFC and begin a winning streak. The Brazilian landed a brutal left hook, knocking down Jauregui, before quickly attempting the Rear-Naked Choke to secure her third submission win of her MMA career. With a big underdog win, Souza has most likely put the Strawweight division on notice as she looks to send another message in her next bout.

Manuel Torres vs Ignacio Bahamondes (Lightweight Bout) - Bahamondes wins via TKO (R1, 4:02).

Bahamondes puts on his most impressive performance to date after earning a first-round TKO victory. Torres attempted to rush the Chilean with some big shots, but two well-timed counter right-hand punches would knockdown the Mexican as La Jaula became the first fighter to knockout Torres. With two consecutive first-round knockout wins, Bahamondes looks like an eye-catching prospect in the Lightweight division.

Irene Aldana vs Norma Dumont (Women's Bantamweight Bout) - Dumont wins via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Dumont outclassed Aldana in a striking battle which would lead the Brazilian to victory. The Immortal caused lots of problems for the Mexican as she left Aldana's face very bloody by the end of the fight, despite one of the reasons being due to an accidental clash of heads which opened up a huge cut on the forehead. The #8 Bantamweight contender will move into the top five in the rankings and may only be one or two fights away from a potential title shot.

main card

Ronaldo Rodriguez vs Ode Osbourne (Flyweight Bout) - Rodriguez wins via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27).

Rodriguez managed to come back from the jaws of defeat and take the fight to distance, winning by unanimous decision. Lazy Boy was almost finished after knocked down and stuck in a tight Triangle Choke, but he would use the next two rounds to conquer Osbourne and win the bout. The Mexican stands on a seven-fight winning streak and will be hoping to contest for a spot in the Flyweight rankings.

Daniel Zellhuber vs Esteban Ribovics (Lightweight Bout) - Ribovics wins via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

In what may be the greatest battle of 2024, Ribovics edged the victory with a split decision. Both men put on an incredible striking display for three rounds with the last round being the most entertaining as the Argentinian would get knocked down early in the third, before stunning Zellhuber and doing anything he could do finish the fight despite being unsuccessful. After a ferocious three-round war, it only makes sense that El Gringo has the opportunity to fight a ranked Lightweight contender as he is proving to be a problem.

Brian Ortega vs Diego Lopes (Featherweight Bout) - Lopes wins via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27).

Lopes continues to exceed everyone's expectations after defeating Ortega by unanimous decision. The Brazilian knocked down T-City early in round one with many believing the fight was close to a finish, before a late knockdown in the third round would seem impossible for Lopes to lose. The #13 Featherweight contender will most likely move to the top three in the rankings and his next fight may just be a title bout between the winner of Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway at UFC 308.

Alexa Grasso vs Valentina Shevchenko (Women's Flyweight Title Bout) - Shevchenko wins via Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45).

Shevchenko delivered a grappling masterclass to earn a dominant decision win and regain the Flyweight throne. The Bullet seemed unstoppable through five rounds, despite the champion attempting numerous submissions as their was one or two occasions where the challenger would be in trouble, but would soon evade the danger. The new UFC Women's Flyweight Champion will most likely set her sights on the next title challenger in the division which will be either Manon Fiorot, or, the winner of Erin Blanchfield and Rose Namajunas at UFC Edmonton.

Sean O'Malley vs Merab Dvalishvili (Bantamweight Title Bout) - Dvalishvili wins via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47).

Dvalishvili is the new King of the Bantamweights after a dominant wrestling performance, despite the judges scorecards making the fight a lot closer than it actually was. O'Malley struggled to land any strikes as The Machine kept putting the pressure and cause problems for the champion on the ground. The Georgian fighter is now on an 11-fight winning streak and after achieving title glory at UFC 306, Dvalishvili will aim to continue his reign of terror in the 135-pound division.
