Believe it or not, we are now halfway through the 2023 darting calendar. It seems a long, long time ago since Michael Smith hit that double 16 to win his very first World Championship on January 3rd. Here are my picks for the best darts players of 2023 so far...
(PDC, 2023)
Michael Smith
Where else can we begin than with 'Bully Boy' himself. Since winning the World Championship, Smith has proved time and time again that he belongs at the very highest level. At times he has looked unplayable in the Premier League and has managed to win more silverware in the German Darts Grand Prix.

Michael Van Gerwen
Despite his injury issues, It's been yet another successful year so far for the Dutchman. After not having his best Premier League for his standards, in true MVG style he turned up at the O2 when it mattered to win the tournament. Furthermore, 'Mighty Mike' has also added a Belgian Open and a US Masters title to his seemingly never-ending trophy cabinet.
Gerwyn Price
In tennis it's Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Well this year in darts it's been Smith, Van Gerwen and Price. 'The Iceman' has been relentless as ever this year and is always there at the the business end of tournaments. After already winning European and International Open titles, Gezza topped it all of in last week's World Cup of Darts victory.
(SportingLife, 2023)
Jonny Clayton
From one Welshman to another, 'The Ferret' has enjoyed another successful year. Whilst not quite being consistent enough to be in the big 3, Clayton has shown that he is the best of the rest, with success in the Austrian Open and World Cup of Darts.
Chris Dobey
Perhaps a bit of a rogue choice, 'Hollywood' completes my list. After winning his first major this year in the form of The Masters, Dobey proved in the Premier League he can keep up with the big guns and had some memorable nights in his debut campaign.

So there's my best five darts players of 2023, the top 4 speak for themselves but I'm sure the fifth spot could go to anyone, so please let me know how wrong I am in the comments section.
