Manchester City vs Inter Milan - Champions League final preview

The 2022/23 UEFA Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter will take place at Istanbul's Atatürk Olympic Stadium on Saturday 10 June 2023.

A Look At The Teams

Manchester City

Form (all competitions, most recent first): WLDWWW
Where they finished: Premier League champions, FA Cup winners

City remain unbeaten in this season's UEFA Champions League, having won seven of their 12 games and knocking out Bayern Munich and holders Real Madrid on their way to Istanbul. They could become the 15th team in UEFA Champions League history to win the trophy without losing a single game.

Inter Milan

Form (all competitions, most recent first): WWWLWW
Where they finished: 3rd in Serie A, Coppa Italia winners

Inter, the Coppa Italia winners in 2022/23, have lost twice on their path to this final, both against Bayern at the start and finish of their group stage campaign. They have won four of their six knockout games and have kept five clean sheets.

Team News

Manchester City

Manchester City are once again concerned about the fitness of two defenders. Kyle Walker and Manuel Akanji missing training on Tuesday, other than that Premier League champions are in good shape for the final.

Pep's thoughts on Walkers injury: "He had a disturbance in his back, yesterday he was not good ... we will see in the next days."

Inter Milan

Inter Milan are hoping that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be fit for the final, but they are also concerned about Joaquin Correa's availability. Dalbert has been ruled out.

Game Predictions

Manchester City will almost certainly never have a greater chance of winning the Champions League and therefore completing the legendary Treble. That is not to argue that Inter are soft, but they are the weakest of the three clubs standing in City's way, the others being Premier League runners-up Arsenal and FA Cup finalists Manchester United.

Guardiola famously tinkered too much when City lost to Chelsea in the final two years ago, so there's always that risk, but any team selection should be able to beat Inter on Saturday.

My Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Inter Milan
