Brighton are known for signings hidden gems in their team. Evan Ferguson signed for the seagulls in January 2021 who beat Liverpool for his signature. The Irish man would have to wait to make his Premier League club, coming on as a sub in a 3-0 loss to Burnley.
Early life
Born on the 19th October 2004 Ferguson, a native of Bettystown, County Meath, is the son of Coventry City's former professional player Barry Ferguson.
He has an English mother. He has always been a Manchester United fan.
Prior to joining the youth team of League of Ireland club Bohemians, where he would play in the National Underage Leagues, Ferguson began his playing career with the famed Dublin schoolboy club St Kevin's Boys.
Brighton
He joined Brighton & Hove Albion's academy in January 2021 after the club outbid Liverpool, another Premier League team, for his services. He made his first team debut on August 24, 2021, when he took Enock Mwepu's place in the 81st minute of a 2-0 victory away against Championship outfit Cardiff City in the EFL Cup second round.
On January 8, 2022, Ferguson made his second appearance of the season for the senior team. He entered the game as a 76th-minute replacement and helped Jakub Moder score the equaliser in the away 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion of the Championship in the FA Cup third round.
Ferguson's first league goal for the seagulls after coming off the bench in a 4-2 defeat to Arsenal at home on the 31st December 2022.
The Irish striker went on to finish the 2022/23 Premier League season with six goals to his name.
The former Bohemians striker has had a firing start to the 2023/24 Premier League season. Netting in the 95th minute in 4-1 win over Premier League new boys Luton Town.
HIs best performance in a Brighton shirt coming in the most recent round of fixtures (Match week 4) adding to his tally by scoring a hat trick against Newcastle in a 3-1 win over the Toon, putting his name alongside the likes of Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler to score a hat trcik in the top division of English football at just 18 years of age.
international Career
In November 2022, for friendlies against Norway and Malta, Ferguson received his first call-up to the senior team, and the 18-year-old admitted that he was "absolutely buzzing" about it. On November 17, he made his senior debut against Norway, replacing goal scorer Alan Browne in the 89th minute of the 2-1 home loss.
On March 22, 2023, against Latvia in a friendly match at Dublin's Aviva Stadium, Ferguson made his debut. On minute seventeen, he capitalised on a Michael Obafemi knockdown to score Ireland's second goal of the match. Ferguson was replaced by Troy Parrott after 73 minutes as Ireland prevailed 3-2.
The Brighton striker is eligible to play for England due to his English roots through his mother but he's also stated that the international switch won't be happening. Publicly stating :
"Obviously, my mam's English so that's where it probably comes from.
"I've seen a few saying 'Oh, will he? Will he?' I can tell you now, it's a no. I wouldn’t be allowed back.”
