The Premier League Sack Race

Published on 27 September 2023 at 13:00

Now officially 6 game weeks into the Premier League season, managers have now had enough time to get a feel of their squads and giving us an idea on how this season could shape up. The likes of Paul Heckingbottom, Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag might be starting to feel the pressure.

Paul Heckingbottom - Sheffield United

Currently the bookies favourite to be sacked first in the Premier League. The Blades are still waiting for their first win this season, only picking up one point so far from a 2-2 draw at home to relegation rivals Everton.

One of the three promoted sides this season Sheffield United are sitting rock bottom of the Premier League table.

With Sheffield United already struggling to get a result in the league, an 8-0 demolishing at the hands Newcastle United won't have helped affairs in Yorkshire.

They play West Ham United at home up next, the former Leeds boss will need a big reaction from his players if he has any hope of still being in a job come Monday morning.

Mauricio Pochettino- Chelsea

Chelsea had a lot of cracks in their team last season, more of a team of individuals with no real chemistry. Before Chelsea went on to improve the team they had to sell to balance the books. Big players like Mason Mount and Kai Havertz left the club for Premier League rivals once again leaving big gaps in the team.

Labelled as a ' New Era' at Chelsea coming into the new season, but it's clear to see that the problems are still yet to be fixed.

Once again spending a lot of money in the transfer market, the Blues boss is yet to hit the ground running this season. With players such as Jackson and Mudryk yet to hit any form, along side injuries to big players such as Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Ben Chilwell times ahead are looking a lot more difficult.

Whenever Chelsea fix one problem another one seems to arise. With high expectations at the club Pochettino may not have long left if this difficult run carries on.

Sean Dyche - Everton

Before last weekend things were looking a lot worse for Sean Dyche's men as they had only got themselves a point prior to the Brentford game.

In addition to the poor results the Toffees' performances have been at best depressing, as they have failed to score in four of their six league games.

Hoping to change Everton's fortunes following two relegation battle escapes, it hasn't exactly gone to plan for Sean Dyche.

The patience of Merseysiders is clearly waning as Everton presently occupy the 18th spot in the relegation zone, having played one extra game than their fellow relegation candidates Burnley and Luton.

There haven't been many sides easier to pull apart than Everton lately, despite Dyche being brought into the club to make them difficult to beat even if they weren't especially pretty to watch.
