Liverpool FC: Who are their best five players on FM24

Published on 9 November 2023 at 20:00

FM24 was released on November 6, 2023, with many football clubs commending the scouting ability of the game and its ability to judge the ability of players.

Liverpool have been one of the best clubs in the world under Jurgen Klopp and have signed and developed some immense talent during this period, but who has Sports Interactive deemed to be the best five Liverpool players in FM24?

Topping the list is Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian captain has been given a rating of 90 on the game once a player starts a save, the only Liverpool player to start within the 90-99 range. This rating should be deemed fair due to the output that Salah has had in his time at Liverpool. The winger has scored 196 goals (as of writing) for the club in all competitions, and his thirst for scoring does not seem like it will relent any time soon.

FM24 will not just have taken into account his goalscoring ability but also the overall output that he has and the threat he offers Liverpool in terms of pace and ability to maintain possession too.

Second on the list is Liverpool’s captain. Virgil Van Dijk has been nothing short of incredible since joining the Merseyside club and has been integral to the success that Klopp has attained. The defender is key to maintaining the backline, but he has been identified as a key instigator of Liverpool attacks. This has brought him a rating of 89 on FM24.

Next on the list is a world-class talent in his position—arguably the best—Alisson. The goalkeeper has been a rock at the back for the six-time European Champions since signing. The ability of the Brazilian to pull off one-on-one saves, his distribution, and his ability to command his area will have earned him a high rating of 88. FM24 just needs to examine the performance in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the year to see the truly world-class keeper that is Alisson.

Fourth on the list may be considered a surprise to many football fans, but not to those that support the Reds. Luis Diaz has been nothing short of incredible since joining the club from Porto. The ability that the winger has at his feet, the growing eye he has for goal, and the resilience he displayed to save Liverpool in their game against Luton Town display exactly why he deserves to be rated 82 in FM24.

The last player to make the list may also be a surprise, but mainly because of who they kept out of the top five players list at Liverpool, according to FM24. Thiago makes the list in fifth with the same rating as Luis Diaz, meaning that Trent Alexander-Arnold has to settle for sixth. The Spanish midfielder has not appeared for Liverpool since April 2023, when he featured against West Ham. The ability of the player has never been questioned, but to rate a player above a number of others currently at the club as he ages, becomes more injury-prone, and as they demonstrate their increasing influence over the side makes you question FM24’s thinking on this one, despite his ability to play a lovely pass.
