UFC 305 Results

UFC 305 may have had one of the most showstopping experiences in Australia as there were plenty of entertaining fights, knockouts and submissions. Here are all the results as to what happened in Perth.

early prelims

Stewart Nicoll vs Jesus Aguilar (Flyweight Bout) - Aguilar wins via Guillotine Choke (R1, 2:39).

Aguilar proves to UFC debutant, Nicoll, that experience is key in the UFC as his winning streak increases to three with a submission win. The Mexican looked to be slightly in trouble at one point with Nicoll taking the back, attempting a submission as well as a ground and pound, but after an unfortunate mistake, Aguilar would take full advantage with a Guillotine Choke. The unranked Flyweight could be one fight away from entering the rankings after putting on another impressive performance at a PPV event.

Song Kenan vs Rick Glenn (Welterweight Bout) - Kenan wins via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-26, 29-28).

The Assassin cruised his way to victory as his striking proved vital in his matchup with Glenn. The Chinese mixed martial artist had stunned the American on multiple occasions and looked like he could have earned a knockout or TKO win, but he settles with a decision triumph. With Kenan back in the win column, he will aim to climb his way back up the Welterweight division and continue his impressive performances.

Tom Nolan vs Alex Reyes (Lightweight Bout) - Nolan wins via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-29).

There was a reason why Nolan was such a heavy favourite in this Lightweight battle as he earned a comfortable win against Reyes. Despite almost being in trouble with some grappling and being on the rough end of some striking exchanges, it was clear to see that Big Train was causing loads of problems for the Californian. With such a tall Lightweight in the UFC, it would not be surprising if he is tested against a well-experienced fighter or a big prospect in his next bout.

preliminary card

Jack Jenkins vs Herbert Burns (Featherweight Bout) - Jenkins wins via TKO (R3, 00:48).

Jenkins put on a dominant striking display to earn a TKO after piecing Burns apart throughout the fight. The Australian earned two knockdowns in the fight with one coming in the second round and the other being the start of a stoppage win as after a nasty ground and pound, plus an offer for Burns to get back to his feet, the Brazilian had no chance of standing back up to finish the rest of the final round and would settle with a TKO loss. With a redeeming win in Perth, Phar aims to begin a winning streak as he tries to rise up further in the Featherweight division.

Casey O'Neill vs Luana Santos (Women's Flyweight Bout) - O'Neill wins via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26).

O'Neill managed to redeem her two-fight losing streak with a dominant performance against Santos as she maintains her #15 Flyweight contender's spot. The first two rounds saw King cope very well with the striking before showcasing her grappling in the third round. O'Neill earns her first UFC win in Australia as she looks to carry momentum with this victory to advance up the Flyweight rankings.

Joshua Culibao vs Ricardo Ramos (Featherweight Bout) - Ramos wins via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28),

In a crazy close fight, Ramos just managed to do enough to win the bout by split decision. The Brazilian had almost submitted Culibao after locking in a tight Rear-Naked Choke multiple times, but the Australian would not back down and defend the submission attempt very well. The Campinas-born mixed martial artist goes back to winning ways after redeeming a two-fight losing streak as he looks to try and add more victories on his MMA record.

Junior Tafa vs Valter Walker (Heavyweight Bout) - Walker wins via Technical Submission with an Ankle Lock (R1, 4:56).

In a fight which ended in a bit of confusion and controversy, Walker would win the fight by technical submission after Tafa had yelled in pain despite not saying tap or doing the action. The Juggernaut did cause problems early in the round, throwing some big punches which would be a big warning sign for The Clean Monster as he managed to takedown the Australian before submitting him in the very last seconds of the first round. With his first win in the UFC, Walker will aim to get better and escalate higher in the Heavyweight division.

main card

Li Jingliang vs Carlos Prates (Welterweight Bout) - Prates wins via KO (R2, 4:02).

The Nightmare continues to live up to his nickname after earning his 10th consecutive victory with another knockout win. The Leech has managed to contest with Prates in the first round, but the second round would just show how dangerous the Brazilian is as his left hand would make the most impact, dropping the Chinese fighter twice to continue his undefeated run in the UFC. It would be no surprise if we do see Prates contest for a place in the Welterweight rankings in his next fight as he deserves from a brilliant performance in Australia.

Tai Tuivasa vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik (Heavyweight Bout) - Rozenstruik wins via Split Decision (29-28, 30-27, 27-30).

In what was almost a big scare with the judges scorecards, Rozenstruik would earn the decision win with the whole MMA community being surprised that he did not win unanimously. Bigi Boy gave Tuivasa a tough time in the Octagon as his striking and movement were the key factors of his victory on away soil. The Suriname-born fighter moves up the Heavyweight rankings and may get an opportunity to rise up even further in his next bout.

Mateusz Gamrot vs Dan Hooker (Lightweight Bout) - Hooker wins via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

In an incredibly close three-round war, The Hangman would just do enough to earn a split decision win which could put him one step away from a UFC title shot. Both men had exchanged with wild punches throughout the fight, along with Gamrot wrestling Hooker on the ground on occasions, but the New Zealander would eventually make it back to his feet. The #11 Lightweight contender moves into the top five of the Lightweight rankings as he has a lot of options and possibilities for what is next for the fan-favourite.

Kai Kara-France vs Steve Erceg (Flyweight Bout) - Kara-France wins via TKO (R1, 4:04).

Kara-France made a emphatic statement win, redeeming his previous controversial loss by knocking out Erceg in the first round. Don't Blink knocked down the hometown fighter just before a minute was left of the round before a second knockdown would see the fight end and Astroboy would receive his first knockout loss in MMA. After such an impressive victory, it almost seems certain that the Auckland-born mixed martial artist will get his shot at undisputed UFC Gold against the champion, Alexandre Pantoja.

Dricus Du Plessis vs Israel Adesanya (Middleweight Title Bout) - Du Plessis wins via Rear-Naked Choke (R4, 3:38).

In an exciting battle between two Africans, Du Plessis would come out on top with the victory and remain as the UFC Middleweight Champion after becoming the first fighter to submit Israel Adesanya in MMA. Both men would hit each other with some clever punches and even though Adesanya had defended a few of Stilknocks' takedowns, the fatigue of the latter stages of the bout would kick in and lead him to make one mistake which would cost him the fight. The South African will have plenty of opponents to choose from in his next title defence as the Middleweight division grows with title contenders, making Du Plessis look more magnificent as the King of the 185-pounders.
