Salt Lake City Hosts Another Action-Packed UFC PPV Event

Published on 26 August 2024 at 22:15

Dana White made some wild fight announcements just nine days ago for UFC 307 which happens in Salt Lake City, Utah. A lot of fans have been speculating if this event was going to be interesting after all the intriguing fight news for UFC 308, but, the organisation's president has delivered with some anticipating bouts. Here are all the confirmed fights that White had announced on 16th August.

alex pereira vs khalil rountree jr

The Main Event sees a Light Heavyweight title bout between the champion, Alex Pereira, and the #8 contender, Khalil Rountree Jr, in what was an unexpected announcement after many had believed Magomed Ankalaev was the next title challenger.

Pereira has had knockout success ever since he became the King of the Light Heavyweights, defeating Jiri Prochazka twice by second-round TKO at UFC 295 and UFC 303, as well as a first-round knockout win over Jamahal Hill at UFC 300.

Rountree Jr is currently on a five-fight winning streak with four of those bouts ending by KO/TKO. The War Horse last defeated Anthony Smith by third-round knockout which occurred at UFC Vegas 83.

An interesting title fight which sees two knockout artists collide as Poatan aims to get his third consecutive title defence, while Rountree Jr looks to defy the odds and earn the ultimate underdog win.

raquel pennington vs julianna pena

The Co-Main Event will witness a Women's Bantamweight title bout between the champion, Raquel Pennington, and the former champion as well as the #1 contender, Julianna Pena.

Pennington stands on a six-fight winning streak with her last victory coming at UFC 297 when she earned title glory against Mayra Bueno Silva.

Pena has not fought since UFC 277 when she failed to defend the Bantamweight throne in a rematch with Amanda Nunes, losing by unanimous decision.

There is no question that this 135-pound battle is hard to predict as Rocky looks to maintain the belt, while Pena tries to become the second female fighter to become a two-time UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion.

ketlen vieira vs kayla harrison

Another Women's Bantamweight fight takes place at Salt Lake City, and it may just be a title eliminator between the #2 contender, Ketlen Vieira, and the #3 contender, Kayla Harrison.

Vieira last fought at UFC London in July 2023 when she earned an unanimous decision win over Pannie Kianzad, redeeming her split decision loss to the current champion.

Harrison made her UFC debut at UFC 300 and amazed the crowd with a second-round submission win over the former Bantamweight Champion, Holly Holm.

Both female fighters deserve a shot at UFC Gold but it will be interesting to see who can earn it with the Brazilian being in the organisation since 2016, and the former PFL fighter having her first fight in April this year.

movsar evloev vs aljamain sterling

A lot of the MMA community would hope that this particular bout occurred this year as the #6 Featherweight contender, Movsar Evloev, takes on the #8 contender, Aljamain Sterling.

Evloev continued his unbeaten record in MMA when he defeated Arnold Allen by unanimous decision at UFC 297.

Sterling made his Featherweight debut at UFC 300 and did not fail to impress as he won very convincingly against Calvin Kattar, winning by unanimous decision.

An anticipating battle which sees two wrestlers battle it out to be one step closer at a title shot as Evloev aims to take out a former champion of the UFC, while Sterling looks to become the first fighter to defeat the Russian.

jose aldo vs mario bautista

A Bantamweight bout which was not expected to happen took everyone by surprise as the #9 contender, Jose Aldo, would continue to fight in MMA as he takes on the #12 contender, Mario Bautista.

Aldo made his return to the UFC for the first time in 21 months as he claimed a hometown victory, defeating Jonathan Martinez by unanimous decision at UFC 301.

Bautista is currently on a six-fight winning streak with his last win coming at UFC Vegas 84 where he would defeat Ricky Simon by unanimous decision.

A lot of fans will be keeping an eye out to see if Aldo can grab more success on his return to MMA, while Bautista will try to destroy the hearts of the fans and earn a win which will rise him further up the Bantamweight rankings.

roman dolidze vs kevin holland

A Middleweight battle which is soaking a lot of interest as both of these fighters have done well in more than one weight class as the #10 contender, Roman Dolidze, takes on the #15 Welterweight contender, Kevin Holland.

Dolidze made a brave move of stepping in on eight days' notice to fight the #10 Light Heavyweight contender, Anthony Smith, in a 205-pound bout, defeating him by unanimous decision.

Holland last fought in a Middleweight bout when he faced Michal Oleksiejczuk at UFC 302, winning in the first-round by submission which redeemed his decision loss at UFC 299.

The Trailblazer has previously been in the Middleweight rankings as he has faced the likes of Marvin Vettori and Derek Brunson in the past, but Dolidze will do everything he can to make sure he maintains his #10 contender's spot.

stephen thompson vs joaquin buckley

In what may be one of the most entertaining fights between two showstopping Welterweights, the #9 contender, Stephen Thompson, takes on the #11 contender, Joaquin Buckley.

Thompson did not have success in his last fight as he would receive his first submission loss of his career at UFC 296, submitting to Shavkat Rakhmonov in the second round.

Buckley has been a rising star in the Welterweight division, putting himself on a four-fight winning streak with his last bout ending by unanimous decision against Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC St Louis.

New Mansa has the chance to step up further in the Welterweight rankings and become a bigger name in the UFC, while Wonderboy is in a desperate need of a victory as he has only won once in his last four fights.

How excited are you for UFC 307? Which fight are you looking forward to the most?
