The Last Noche UFC Event

Last year, Dana White brought an incredible Fight Night to the T-Mobile Arena to celebrate Mexican Independence Day as it featured some interesting bouts as well as an highly anticipating title fight. Here is what happened at Noche UFC back in September 17th, 2023.

The event started off with a dominant decision win from Josefine Knutsson as her grappling and striking outclassed Mamic Mann, allowing her to continue her undefeated record in MMA.

The second bout would see the first stoppage win of the night as Charlie Campbell would defeat Alex Reyes by first-round TKO on his UFC debut.

Mexican fan-favourite, Tracy Cortez, earned a convincing unanimous decision in the Women's Flyweight division as she increased her winning streak to 11 with a victory over Jasmine Jasudavicius.

Edgar Chairez thought he won his bout in the Preliminary Card, submitting Daniel da Silva with an Anaconda Choke, but the fight would be ruled as a No Contest after a referee error.

Roman Kopylov extended his knockout winning streak to four after a brutal body punch in the second round would see Josh Fremd unable to continue to fight.

Finally, to finish off the Prelims, Ellis Reed would be no match for Loopy Godinez as a Rear-Naked Choke would see the Mexican fighter take the win in the second round.

In a close bout to open up the Main Card, Kyle Nelson would do just enough to earn an unanimous decision win over Fernando Padilla an increase his unbeaten streak to three.

Daniel Zellhuber would put on a terrific display in the second round as he submitted Christos Giagos with an Anaconda Choke, making it his first stoppage triumph in the UFC.

The most shocking performance of the night would come from 18-year-old Raul Rosas Jr who stopped Terrence Mitchell in just 54 seconds of the first round to win by TKO.

The Co-Main Event saw a highly exciting Welterweight war between two contenders, Kevin Holland and Jack Della Maddalena. In a truly close fight which was very hard to score, Maddalena did just enough to earn the judges vote, winning by split decision.

Then came the title fight which brought a lot of questions as Alexa Grasso would defend her UFC Women's Flyweight title, after a shocking submission win against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285 to become the champion, as the fans wanted to know if it really was just luck that was on her side.

This would be the first title fight in a non-PPV event since July 2020 when Deiveson Figueiredo became the UFC Flyweight Champion. The five-round bout would not disappoint as both women went the distance in a crazy exchange of striking and grappling, but in surprising fashion, the title fight would end in a draw and so Grasso would stay as the Queen of the Flyweights.

UFC 306 will be the next Combat Sports event for Mexican Independence Day which will take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas. It will also be the first sporting event to take place in the Arena.

The bouts include Sean O'Malley defending his UFC Bantamweight title against the #1 contender, Merab Dvalishvili. Grasso and Shevchenko will have their trilogy fight for the UFC Women's Flyweight title in the Co-Main Event, plus, Brian Ortega will try to maintain his #3 Featherweight ranking in a long-awaited battle against the #13 contender Diego Lopes.

Was Noche UFC your favourite Combat Sports Event of 2023? Are you looking forward to UFC 306?
