After two years away from Kansas City, the UFC returns to the T-Mobile Center as MMA fans are raring to see some organised violence after a two-week break. The Main Event sees a Welterweight battle between the #7 contender, Ian Machado Garry, and the #13 contender, Carlos Prates. Here is everything you need to know before it all kicks off.
Machado Garry suffered his first MMA defeat in his last fight, losing to Shavkat Rakhmonov by unanimous decision at UFC 310 which ultimately decided who would be next to challenge Belal Muhammad for the Welterweight title.
The Irishman has taken on some of the most toughest and experienced contenders in the 170-pound division, including Neil Magny, Geoff Neal and Michael 'Venom' Page.
The Future has more recently won his battles by going the distance, but has earned seven KO/TKO wins out of 15 career bouts.
The #7 contender has his eyes set on redemption and a win against a highly viewed prospect like his opponent could boost him back up with a chance to enter title contention.
Prates remains to be undefeated in the UFC and is on a path of destruction, especially when he won his last fight by first-round knockout against Neil Magny at UFC Vegas 100.
The Brazilian is currently on an 11-fight winning streak with his last 10 wins ending by knockout as he has defeated the likes of Li Jingliang and Trevin Giles.
With 21 victories in his MMA career, The Nightmare has won 16 of those by KO/TKKO as well as claiming three submission wins.
The #13 contender is looking to boost himself up the Welterweight rankings and a win at UFC Kansas City will achieve just that, possibly putting himself just one fight away from a title shot.
other fights you should look out for
Anthony Smith vs Zhang Mingyang - Smith is on a two-fight losing streak with his last bout ending by second-round TKO against Dominick Reyes at UFC 310. With 38 wins, Lionheart is known to stop fights as he holds 20 KO/TKO triumphs and 15 submissions. The #15 Light Heavyweight contender is once again searching to get back in the win column as it wouldn't be the first time he's redeemed himself while being on a losing run.
Mingyang has introduced himself to the organisation very nicely with two first-round knockouts wins which have come against Brendson Ribeiro at UFC 298 and Ozzy Diaz at UFC Macau. The Mountain Tiger has stopped all of his conquered opponents with 12 knockouts and six submission with every victory ending in the first round. In just his third UFC fight, Mingyang has an excellent chance to become a contender in the 205-pound division.
Michel Pereira vs Abus Magomedov - Pereira's eight-fight winning streak was snapped in his last fight when he was defeated by Anthony Hernandez at UFC Vegas 99. Demolidor can find success on the feet and on the ground as he holds 11 KO/TKO wins and nine submissions to his name. The #14 Middleweight contender is aiming to keep his place or he could lose his spot in the rankings.
Magomedov is started his winning streak at UFC 308 when he submitted Brunno Ferreira in the third round. The German currently has 27 victories in MMA with 14 ending by KO/TKO and seven by submission. Magomedov has previously had the opportunity to enter the rankings when he faced Sean Strickland, but after losing that fight, he won't want to miss out again.
Randy Brown vs Nicolas Dalby - Brown came agonisingly close to winning his last battle as he suffered a split decision loss to Bryan Battle at UFC 310. Rudeboy has earned 12 stoppage wins out of his 19 career triumphs, claiming seven knockouts and five submissions. The Jamaican will make his 20th UFC appearance at the T-Mobile Center and will want to make the most of it with a big statement win.
Dalby was on a four-fight winning streak before edging out a split decision loss to Rinat Fakhretdinov at UFC 308. Danish Dynamite has stopped 11 of his 23 conquered opponents, securing seven KO/TKO wins and four submissions. Dalby is almost just as experienced as Brown in the UFC as he will be hunting for redemption and has never lost in front of an American crowd.
