Euro 2024 - final preview

Yamal or Foden, Williams or Bellingham, Simon or Pickford, the question is, who is going to be the hero in the upcoming Euro 2024 final? After four weeks of slightly underwhelming football (as major tournaments go) let’s take a look at who could be the hero on Sunday night…

A young Spanish side may have been questioned pre-tournament, but it’s fair to say that La Roja have played the best football thus far. In the glory years from 2008-2012, Spain would play without any recognised wingers, however it has been the likes of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams who have been instrumental to their success.

Luis de la Fuente has built a team who like to play on the front foot, no matter the opposition. Dani Olmo of Leipzig wasn’t a regular starter in the team, but has surely cemented his place in the starting XI with some superb goals in the knockout stage.

And of course, how could we talk about Spain without mentioning Rodri. The 28 year old midfielder has only lost a handful of games over the past two years. Furthermore, he has developed a healthy habit of scoring goals in big games, giving him a chance to register his name on the list of the few players to score in a Champions League and European Championship final.

As for England, without playing the most attractive football, they have found themselves once again in a Euros final. Manager, Gareth Southgate was lambasted from pillar to post by sections of England fans during the early stages of the tournament, but has surely now got the whole country behind him for the game tomorrow night.

The Three Lions majorly improved against the Netherlands in their semi final bout. Phil Foden finally looked like the player we have seen from Man City all season. England supporters will be hoping it’s a case of hitting form at the right time for ‘The Stockport Iniesta’.

The Spanish will go into the game as favourites, but with England’s winning mentality, anything could happen in the final.

Will Spain reign supreme or is football finally “coming home?” Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
