Ngannou vs Ferreira: The Predator Returns To The Cage

PFL welcomes Francis Ngannou back to MMA for the first time since January 2022 as he fights for the Heavyweight Superfight Championship against Renan Ferreira in Riyadh. Here is how The Predator and Problema have reached this moment.

Ngannou became an eye-catching fighter to MMA fans when he knocked out Alistair Overeem with a vicious uppercut in the first round of UFC 218. Giving him a title shot two months later which he would lose to Stipe Miocic by unanimous decision at UFC 220.

After a decision loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC 226, the Cameroonian would begin his dangerous rise to success when he defeated Curtis Blaydes in just 45 seconds, winning by TKO at UFC Beijing.

The Predator would then go up a level and knockout former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez, in just 26 seconds at UFC Phoenix.

Another first-round knockout win against former champion, Junior Dos Santos, would put Ngannou in a prime position to earn his second shot for undisputed UFC Gold.

At UFC 249, the Batie-born fighter claimed his opportunity for a title shot after knocking out Jairzinho Rozenstruik in just 20 seconds of the first round, granting the opportunity to have his rematch with Miocic.

Ngannou would finally become the King of the Heavyweights when he knocked out Miocic in the second round, increasing his KO/TKO streak to five and really making him a dangerous knockout artists in the sport.

The newly crowned champion would successfully defend his title once, defeating Ciryl Gane by unanimous decision at UFC 270, before leaving the UFC after cutting ties due to his contract renewal.

On 28th October, 2023, Ngannou made his Boxing debut and would challenge the WBC World Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury, in a 10-round non-title bout. The Predator just lost by split decision against The Gypsy King, but would earn a lot of respect after earning a knockdown in the third round.

Ngannou's Boxing journey came crashing down when he suffered a brutal knockout loss earlier this year to Anthony Joshua in Riyadh, losing in the second round.

 

Ferreira made his debut in PFL against former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Fabricio Werdum, originally winning the bout by first-round TKO, however the fight would be overturned to a No Contest due to the controversy of the stoppage.

The Brazilian earned his first decision win of his MMA career when he defeated Carl Seumanutafa by unanimous decision.

Problema ended 2021 in quick and spectacular fashion when knocked out Stuart Austin in just 31 seconds of the first round. Ferreira would then open up 2022 with a 25-second knockout win over Jamelle Jones.

The Porangatu-born fighter's next three fights would be seen as a total disaster after; losing a bout against Klidson Abreu by unanimous decision, but the fight would be overturned to a No Contest after Abreu failed a drug test, losing by first-round TKO to Ante Delija, and another unanimous decision loss that turned to a No contest after Rizvan Kuniev failed a drug test.

Despite his slight downfall, Ferreira would make an incredible rise in the Heavyweight division when he redeemed his last three fights with a 50-second knockout win against Matheus Scheffel.

Two months later, the 34-year-old earned another first-round knockout win, this time against Maurice Greene which would put him in the finals of the Heavyweight tournament and the chance to win a collective prize of $1 million dollars.

Ferreira claimed glory in November 2023 when he stopped Denis Guskov, defeating the Russian by second-round TKO to win the 2023 PFL Heavyweight tournament.

In his last MMA bout, Problema stunned the Riyadh crowd when he knocked out Ryan Bader in 21 seconds of the first round at PFL Champions vs Bellator Champions, making himself known as one of the most dangerous Heavyweights in this present day.
