2024 New Zealand Darts Masters Preview: Who Will Win Final Masters Event Of The Season?

Published on 15 August 2024 at 19:30

Gerwyn Price will be looking to complete the 'Down Under Double' of World Series triumphs, as the last event of this year's World Series of Darts gets underway on Friday in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Price steamrolled Luke Littler 8-1 in Wollongong last weekend to scoop his second World Series title of the year, with the 17-year-old himself having three to his name in his debut season.

The PDC lineup remains the same from last weekend, with Price and Littler joined by Luke Humphries, Rob Cross, Peter Wright and Michael Smith as the World Series stalwarts.

Australian and Belgian No.1s Damon Heta and Dimitri Van den Bergh are in place of Michael Van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall, who both reportedly turned down an invite to the Southern hemisphere for family reasons.

Joining the eight PDC stars will be eight more of the continent's top darting talent, including former World Championship finalist Simon Whitlock, WDF player Ben Robb, and Haupai Puha, who holds the distinction of being the first New Zealander with a PDC Tour Card.

Friday night will see a much anticipated rematch between defending champion Cross and Puha, who went to a last leg shootout in Australia last weekend, which Voltage barely managed to win.

Gerwyn Price has been handed a tough opening test against Robb, but the undeniable tie-to-watch will be Australian World Cup partners Heta and Whitlock meet in the final game of the Friday session.
