The reigning World Champion and World Number 1 Luke Humphries finally added his name to World Series of Darts roll of honour, after he won the 2024 New Zealand Darts Masters in Hamilton.
Cool Hand first dispatched New Zealand native Kayden Milne in the first round, before a close contest against his World Cup duo partner Michael Smith saw him make the semi-finals after a 6-4 win.
Then, in a rematch of the World Championship final back in January, Humphries once again found himself sharing the oche with Luke Littler. Littler raced to a 6-2 lead in the race to 7, and it looked very likely that Humphries would be missing out a World Series title on his debut year.
But a stunning comeback saw the World Number 1 reel off four legs on the spin to level the game, before winning the last leg shootout to make the final in Hamilton 7-6.

In the final awaited Damon Heta, but there was unfortunately no hat trick of close games, as Humphries stormed his way to an 8-2 win against the Australian No.1 to clinch his maiden World Series of Darts crown.
With the World Series of Darts events now over for the year, all eyes are on Amsterdam and the World Series Finals in mid September. Humohries made the semi-finals last year, but marginally lost 11-10 to eventual winner Michael Van Gerwen in a semi-final classic.
One would imagine that after the year Humphries his had, it will take something truly special to stop him scooping another major, and question his status as the best momentum player in the world of darts today.
